SEO success story: a case study

For a business to succeed online, SEO must be part of your marketing strategy. It’s simply not optional anymore. To explain what we mean, we want to look at our client’s recent success.

Simmonsigns were looking for a completely new approach to their digital communications; one that would develop their online performance and set them apart from the competition. Their understanding of how beneficial SEO can be when you commit to it for the long term enabled us to work together and devise a strategy that would work towards achieving their business goals.

SEO isn’t about quick fixes. It’s something that needs to be invested in. So let’s take a look at Simmonsigns as an example.

Simmonsigns’ SEO success story

Based in Telford, Simmonsigns are designers and manufacturers of traffic management products and – in their own words – “founded on an ethos of providing solutions for safer roads”.

Approaching us back in early 2017, Simmonsigns were after a full digital service to breathe new life into the company image, improve their brand awareness and increase sales of their products. After designing a new business identity, creating bespoke brand material and developing a new website, it was agreed that a digital marketing strategy was required in order to promote this new look and achieve their company goals…

Their strategy consisted of Google Ads, LinkedIn and email marketing campaigns, all complemented by an ongoing SEO campaign to boost their organic presence within the search engines.

Following the launch of their new site, it was essential that their existing positioning was maintained and used as a foundation for future work. So the first task was to ensure URL redirects were in place to guide both users and search engines from the old pages to the new ones.

Next we worked closely with Simmonsigns to ascertain which key terms were most important in order to:

  1. effectively describe their services
  2. bring relevant search traffic to their website
  3. lead to potential conversions

Using their digital marketing/copywriting experience, our in-house team created unique, optimised content to use across the website that thoroughly reflected Simmonsigns’ service offering, whilst simultaneously indicating intent to search engines.

Continuing our campaign whilst routinely monitoring performance and site health, we saw Simmonsigns’ search traffic increase throughout 2018, together with the number of keywords they appeared for, within the top 10 positions of Google.

SEO is not optional

Simmonsigns understood from the get-go that SEO would have a much better effect if they committed for the long term. And it’s clear that their investment has paid off.

“Simmonsigns were not simply looking for an agency who could redesign our website. We wanted longer term engagement that would transition our current website activity and build on our core values around road safety.

Through the combination of improved organic, direct and paid activity, we have seen page rankings improve and growth in our monthly sessions year-on-year whilst maintaining a low bounce rate.

This has been achieved through a range of activities, not least of all both Source and Simmonsigns committing to regular meetings, scheduling and completing updates, improvements, campaigns and articles.

Our investment with Source of both time and monies is working really well!”

– John Halliday, Managing Director – Simmonsigns

To sum up, SEO is not optional. Whilst, initially, it may be tempting not to prioritise it in comparison to other business ventures, if implemented successfully for the long term, it can reap huge benefits for many years to come.
