4th September '18
Canoe believe it is almost time for the annual World Championship Coracle Race 2018.
Team Source will be picking up the paddles again and heading out on/into the water for another exciting day of fundraising. Run by Macmillan Cancer Support, the coracle race returns in 2018 to the River Severn in Shrewsbury on the afternoon of Friday 14th September.
Wait, What Exactly Is A Coracle?
Let’s take a trip back in time. The coracle was made famous in 1774 when Frank Coracle invented a highly inefficient method of crossing a river.
Frank was a local police officer, and soon after designing the vessel, he made it illegal to use any other mode of transport on the water in his local town.
Soon afterwards he was awkwardly carrying 3 or 4 passengers a day from one side of the riverbank to the other. This went on for several months until someone decided to build a bridge. And the rest is history…*
Our Humor Might Be Oar-Ful… But This Is All For Charity
All of the money raised from the Coracle World Championship 2018 will be going towards a truly fantastic cause. And whilst we will try our hardest to ensure an overwhelming victory on the day, ultimately, the generosity of all you wonderful people will be the real winner.
We would be very grateful if you could dig deep and make a donation via our Just Giving page, or alternatively, you can show your support by coming along to the Pengwern Boat Club in Shrewsbury Quarry at 2:30 pm on Friday 14th September to motivate us with your cheering.
