A deep dive into the 10 Year Challenge

More than ever we are seeing content that aims to transport us back in time. From #ThrowbackThursday to ‘Memories’ on Facebook, we are often found thinking about our past.

In recent weeks you will have seen your friends and family taking part in the 10 Year Challenge. It is a simple concept. You share a picture of yourself (a selfie) from 2009 alongside a self-picture from 2019. And then you tell people about how your life has changed.

Why these particular dates are important is unknown. Yet, all across social media, we are seeing the trend gather pace and popularity.

Not one to miss out on the fun, here is our own take on the 10 Year Challenge. Let’s take a trip down memory lane…

The iPhone

I AM THE GREATEST INVENTION OF THE 21ST CENTURY! Deep down, I’m still the same inside. But, I’ve been able to improve my skills thanks to new technology. I don’t mean to sound bigheaded, but I have literally changed the world.

I’m so glad I ditched that ugly home button recently. Not sure why I ever thought that was a good idea. This new notch is so 2019…

Websites

As I look back, it is a wonder how I was ever helpful to anyone in 2009. I was so slow and lacked any respect for the needs of a user. I was often heard saying, “just one more gif won’t harm!”. Oh, the shame…

Now, 10 years on, I’m a lean, mean, data gathering machine that you can access anywhere in the world. “I can do anything”, is my new mantra. A big thank you goes to my bro, the iPhone, for bringing out the best in me.

Social Media

I was a total scene kid back in 2009 and my profile song was always something by Yellowcard. ‘My Top Friends’ list was prime real estate and caused so many heated arguments. I could be whatever you wanted me to be and I introduced you to some of your favourite bands.

A shout out goes to my best friend, the iPhone. I honestly don’t know where I would be without you.

It has been a turbulent journey over the years to get to where I am today, and I’m by no means perfect. But please know that you can share anything with me. Absolutely anything and everything. I promise I’ll keep it a secret…
